What is teeth whitening?
Teeth whitening is an outpatient procedure that removes stains from the surfaces of your teeth.
There are many teeth whitening systems available, but Dr. Park and her team offer in-office teeth whitening with Philips Zoom!. Philips Zoom! uses hydrogen peroxide gel to brighten your smile quickly and effectively.
Why do teeth change color?
Everyone experiences tooth discoloration due to the natural aging process. Routine activities, such as biting, chewing, and speaking, cause your tooth enamel to erode, revealing more of the yellow dentin underneath.
You might also have discolored teeth as a result of:
Poor oral hygiene

What does teeth whitening involve?

Before recommending treatment, she reviews your dental records and asks about your goals. Dr. Park then completes an oral exam and takes digital X-rays, checking for tooth decay and gum disease. If your mouth is healthy, you qualify for treatment.
Dr. Park covers your gums and tongue with a protective dam and applies the Zoom! whitening solution to each of your teeth. She lets the solution sit for 20 minutes while your teeth absorb it. Then, Dr. Park points a special light at your smile, triggering a whitening reaction.
Sometimes, one application is enough to provide stunning results. But if you have dark or particularly noticeable stains, Dr. Park might recommend more.
At the end of the treatment, Dr. Park rinses your mouth, polishes your teeth, and provides recovery instructions.
Is teeth whitening with Philips Zoom! safe?
Teeth whitening treatment with Philips Zoom! is safe and usually well-tolerated, but it can present risks. For example, in the days after your treatment, it’s normal to experience increased tooth and gum sensitivity. Any discomfort should improve within a day or two, but if it continues or worsens, contact Dr. Park immediately.

Zoom! teeth whitening typically lasts 3-4 months*, but you can extend your results with good oral hygiene. Dr. Park recommends brushing your teeth twice daily, flossing regularly, and visiting the office every six months for preventive care.
